But on 25th November 2005, George Best died, aged just 59. Throughout his life Best fought a very public battle with alcoholism and even survived a life saving liver transplant. Alcohol had a dramatic effect on his life, his relationships and health but, at the very end, was it the drink that killed him? Forensic Physician Dr Jason Payne-James examines George Best's medical history. He traces Best's attempts to beat his addictive illness, charts the impact that a lifetime of drinking has on his body, and ultimately, reveals how Best dies – not directly from alcohol – but from drugs prescribed to save him. George's son Calum, his wife Alex and his agent Phil Hughes all contribute to a film that coincides with the tenth anniversary of his death.
