Roos's team investigates a break-in in a rural parish church and the disappearance of its sacristan Jozef. They soon discover it's about art theft, and notably the secret switching with a clever fake of a historical, according to devotees, miraculous wooden Madonna. Roos traces the forger Van Geysel and his fencing connection in the antiques business, but they dare use violence against him too.
