De zorgen en de angst beginnen zwaar op Marianne te wegen. De overleden juf Sandra wordt beladen met alle schuld voor de CO-vergiftiging. Haar vriend Ben kan dat moeilijk verteren. De verkiezingsstrijd woedt in alle hevigheid en de uitdagers van burgemeester Coenen proberen garen te spinnen rond de tragedie in de Antwerpse school. Wanneer Marianne ontdekt dat de kachelpijp nog maar recent vervangen moet zijn, trekt ze op onderzoek uit want ze voelt dat er iets niet pluis is.
